Port of Amsterdam offers shelter and SIM cards

Emergency shelter on two ships

Starting Monday 14 March, two ships will be docked at the Javakade in Amsterdam to provide shelter for up to 360 Ukrainian refugees. This emergency shelter will be open until mid-June 2022 and is a joint effort of the Municipality of Amsterdam and Port of Amsterdam.

VEKA and AMA Waterways have made these ships available. The ship provided by VEKA is the former offshore accommodation vessel Bellini. The other ship, provided by AMA Waterways, is the river cruiser AMA Venita. The Port of Amsterdam will support this emergency shelter financially.

SIM cards for seafarers also in Port of Amsterdam

The Port of Amsterdam will also be distributing SIM cards to seafarers in need. These will be provided by inspectors or port officials of the Office of the Harbour Master. The harbour priest and the Deutsche Seemansheim missionaries are visiting ships for many years now. They will also receive SIM cards for distribution to seafarers.
