Seafarers’ Initiative Kick Off Meeting

On Friday, 4 March 2022, eleven organisations active in Dutch Ports held a kick off meeting in Rotterdam to discuss the problems that seafarers may face as a result of the Russia-Ukraine War. The organisations discussed that the problems are now still relatively few, but they are expecting that more issues may arise related to repatriation, payments of wages, contact with family members and tensions on board. The organisations talked about the outlook, shared experiences and discussed solutions. There is also a request for information about the status quo from other stakeholders. It was decided to launch a webpage for seafarers and for other stakeholders.
